A Traitor Lives Inside My Brain, and I Let It In

2 min read53

I did not stop posting because I got lazy. I stopped because my brain quietly accepted something dangerous.

Friends and students asked why I disappeared after being so consistent. Why I would start projects, then go quiet.

Here is the truth I only recently understood.

Learned Helplessness.

Throughout 2025, I kept starting things. And stopping. Mostly stopping.

I set goals and made plans, yet I could not move.

It felt like going nowhere while being exhausted all the time.

From the outside, it probably looked like I was doing nothing.

But that was not true.

  • Still writing a book, unfinished
  • Still working out, struggling with consistency
  • Still fasting, mentally and physically demanding
  • Still planning, but unable to create
  • Still working, without a clear end in sight
  • Still networking, without deeper connections
  • Still hopeful, while the heart grew tired

The issue was never ambition.

It was overload. Too many things that mattered. Too much pressure on a system already carrying old disappointments.

Years ago, I pushed hard. I aspired for everything. I tried relentlessly.

People told me I had talent. Potential. Range.

But my efforts did not translate into outcomes.

Over time, my brain learned a brutal equation…

Effort does not equal progress.

So now, when I try to initiate something, my system freezes.

Not because the ability is gone. But because my brain is saying, "Not now. This is not safe. No point."

I am juggling work, fasting, while having unprocessed regret and unresolved expectations.

So my nervous system chooses preservation over progress. Flight over fight. Inaction over more hurt.

My lack of progress is not failure... it is self-defense. And I have been mentally beating myself up over this for far too long. Identifying the learned helplessness changed something.

I do not want to live in this space.

It's draining me slowly. Months have passed.

One part of me wants to move forward. Two parts resist.

Momentum is dying quietly this way.

So this post is not an announcement. It is an attempt.

I don't know yet what the series of attempts will be but for today… The attempt is simply writing a post and sharing it with you.

A small step towards movement. Toward rebuilding trust between effort and outcome.

I am choosing to try again. Gently. Intentionally. Honestly.

To #KeepTryingUntil.

Because success, to me, is simple and human:

  • Waking up on my own timing
  • Peace about the financial future
  • Strength and health
  • Presence with friends and family
  • The ability to bless those around me

This is me choosing progress (again), even if it starts small.
