Update on My Brother

2 min read
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

Update:

  • Brother has been shifted to different hospital for rehab work
  • Doctor explained the fall triggered a 2nd stroke (previous doctor didn't bring to my attention clearly about this)
  • Likely, because of it, my brother currently can't speak. His vocal chords are fine, after checking. But he can't willingly make sounds.
  • His right hand/leg is strong and he is sane, so we communicate with him through simple questions and he responds through thumbs up and shaking his head slightly
  • Cannot sit upright by himself, needs support to move his body.
  • Able to eat porridge, minced meat now. Though, bland as heck and his face twists in "ugh" each time.

Family side:

  • Making changes at home and I'll have to shift beds & stuff (mostly by myself, from my estimate)
  • Have to hire a long-term caregiver for him
  • Family is working closely together to spend time with him

Personal note:

Thank you for your prayers, your comments, and well-wishes. I share this NOT to gain sympathy but to give updates for those who are concerned. If you do not want to see this, please feel free to unfriend/unfollow (I can see statistics from my account and I do not hold it against you at all). We have more challenges to deal with as a family in the long-run but we are taking it day by day, week by week now.

Photo I shared here is when he was in NUH and I helped him sit upright by seating behind him, otherwise, he'd be lying down 100% of the time. The feeding tube has since been removed.

Once again, thank you for your time reading this far.
