I Made 100 Videos But 1 Text Post Changed Everything
I poured my heart, time, and money into creating more than 100 videos - only to be ignored. Then, one raw, honest post changed everything.
As a trainer with Nas Academy, creating video content was expected. In fact, at one point, there was even a rule - publish regularly or miss out on opportunities to train.
I pushed myself into the grind.
I created and posted 100 videos in 100 days across Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube. Scripting, performing, recording, editing, publishing - I even paid someone to help me with making sure I record everything on time.
But after all that effort when I was reviewing the numbers, the results revealed that something vital was missing. I made sure to have hooks, structure, simple language... all the things needed for good content but it still didn't click.
Imagine spending hundreds of hours, buying equipment, paying someone to help me out... and it resulted in being ignored because it was just another video.
See... One-minute shorts were the rage, but they gave no space for nuance, little space for the journey, no layers.
I tried to keep up, but honestly, I did not want to live life constantly recording myself instead of living & experiencing the moment.
Still, I pressed on after the 100 videos and started a new project - documenting my 40-day fasting journey on video.
But after 17 days of recording and editing, combined with the hunger from fasting, on day 18 I completely ran out of energy. It was so bad I couldn't recall anything on day 18 that I wanted to talk about.
I failed.
I admitted it on day 41 with an honest, written post on Facebook. That post got 58 reactions - equivalent to 12 of my videos combined. I brushed it off initially. "Must be because it's written, not video."
Then I wrote another post. 130 reactions. Another - 117. Another - 221.
Continuously, I discounted them but then it hit me. These were people I knew - friends, cousins, students, and real connections reaching out. I was treating them like numbers instead of real, living, breathing human beings.
That was the turning point.
I realised the missing thing was authentic storytelling.
It was not just a technique - it was the key. It was what made people care, connect, and respond.
With this realisation, I began testing storytelling on different platforms. I tested posts that mattered to me but I didn't use a story. I tested posts with stories that might not matter to my target audience but it was heavy on storytelling.
The storytelling posts outperformed posts without stories.
Every time.
Now I am sharing what I have learned. On 23 Sep 2025, 730pm to 930pm SGT, live on Zoom, along with 2 others, I'll be sharing a 30 minute session titled: Best Kept Secret of Storytelling – How to Turn Your Life into Stories that Move People
