How Unremembered Books Still Shape Your Mind
Currently at the hospital, while my brother is doing his physiotherapy. Which explains the empty wheelchair and his personal walking cane peeking out from the side of the picture.
As I wait, I am learning. I write notes on a tiny sticky pad for every 20 pages I read, and it's why I still like physical books. I've got tons of e-books and it's here to stay... But there's just something about seeing how far I've gone in the book, and to look at the written notes to trigger my own learning points. (I'm running out of ink for this pen though)
Ever since experimenting with this, I engage more with my own learning.
How do you read books?
Someone asked me once... If I can remember everything I've read... And I say no, I don't.
And I ask back... Do you remember the taste of everything you've eaten? She said no.
So I said... Just as how everything you've eaten in some part or another made you... That's the way I view books. All the knowledge becomes a part of me. Even if I can't recall it all.
But unlike food, the knowledge I've accumulated over the years can be brought back up in wonderous new forms. In the way I think, in the way I speak, in the way of my continuous human journey.
Invest into the fertile ground of your mind, for that brings forth untold returns.
