Hey Asher, Shut Up

4 min read124

What started out as an innocent request resulted in a reminder lesson for me... but I've got a gift embedded into this story, should you wish to receive it.

Here's what happened...

I connected with this person (let's call this person "P") because we're in the same FB group.

I had recently been putting out more video content and I watched a few, had left comments on some, but didn't really interact with P's latest videos.

P doesn't interact with my videos, and that's 100% okay with me because P is not my target market.

Plus... a lot of the videos I put out recently are "exercises", "experiments", and really long videos so for those of you who watched and commented, interacted, liked, and shared... I really appreciated it because all those were unexpected bonuses and little presents because you bothered to interact.

💪Back to the story...

Yesterday, I get a whole bunch of likes from P and "hey how are you doing" from P. I basically thanked P for the mass likes.

Following which, P requested for me to like and comment on P's videos after I have watched it.

(Here's where it started going downhill.)

After that comment, I asked whether P has studied copywriting before and P said "No never, why?"

From there, I gave some feedback on what I think can be done to improve on the videos... more specifically, on learning from a very reputable copywriter whom I learnt to write copywriting bullets because I know that knowledge applied to P's video titles will skyrocket P's response rates.

🤓This copywriter won praise from Eugene Schwartz, David Ogilvy, John Caples, Ted Nicholas, Gary Halbert, John Carlton, Jay Abraham, Bob Bly, Joe Vitale, Alex Mandossian, and a whole bunch more.

If you are in this space, some of these names are not giants, they are freaking TITANS. And they unanimously gave props to him.

I even dug up a precious, free but forgotten resource which I referred to sporadically over the years, to gift to P.

And P's response was... "What is wrong with my videos now? You think they suck? Is that why you don't want to like them?"

At this point...

The rolling downhill ball has touched the point of unstoppable momentum.

BUT 😏

Being the helpful idiot I often am, I proceed to voice message and further explain. Apologizing for coming across as rude, as that was not my intention, and trying to salvage the situation.

Thereafter, it was followed by remarks that P went to check whether I had implemented what I was preaching, and my videos were boring, intro was too long, never got to the content, P didn't want my likes anymore.

(... Come to think of it, quite amazing how fast P could go through the entire resource in 2 minutes to be able to check whether I was implementing what I had learnt...)

At this point, I repeated a mistake I've done before... helping someone who didn't ask for it.

I could have kept my mouth shut, stopped at "Thanks" and perhaps responded with "Sure, ok"

P has since removed me as a friend

Which is good news for me

I won't be able to read this post because I've set it to "friends only" whereas my recent posts have usually been public. If P does read this somehow, here's my passive aggressive response... P, I apologize for giving you advice when you didn't ask for it. I have since unsent all the messages in that conversation as it was uncalled for. Thanks for unfriending me. I wish you the best in your future endeavors.

NOW, BACK TO YOU, MY FRIEND 🤗

Remember that precious resource I was talking about?

If you are in the business of selling... your product, your idea, your whatever... and you want to write insanely better... boost response AND conversion rates...

The gift which I've withdrawn from P, I now freely give to you. Only if you want it.

I will send you 2 links, 1 link to his main page of which he lets you optin to his list but... I've only received 3 emails from him. 2 in 2009 and 1 in 2012. So I don't think you'll get any new emails from him.

The 2nd link is that treasured resource which I've also downloaded into my computer in the event the website goes down and I lose this reference for good.

(It's basically all superbly, written text)

Just drop a comment below, and I'll send you those 2 links.

There's an additional condition: if you like what you've read, pop back here in this post and share what you've learned from that resource. Cool?

Note

This resource is no longer available. However, you can search for the Bencivenga Bullets to learn more
