Michael Jackson has died (1958-2009). When I first heard the news from my sister who called me at work, I was a little shaken.
My heart goes out to the Jackson family. I’ve been a fan of Michael since I was a very young kid and I stayted a fan through all the controversies in his life. To know of his passing is indeed saddening.
Here’s a short, little poem I wrote for Michael.
“Rest in peace, Michael, rest in peace.
Away from the world which loved you and damned you.
Rest in peace.
You will always be remembered as the “King of Pop”… a king both loved and hated.
You brought smiles and tears, dreams and fears – controversy wrapped like a lover.
Rest as the world finally celebrates you though it might have been better before your departure.
Rest in peace, oh loved and hated one, rest in peace.”
As Michael passes on, I’m sure the world will state what a great man he was and how much he contributed to music. But what saddens me is why people don’t care to celebrate him while he’s still alive.
Was he ever found guilty of what the media says he was? I don’t know. Did they find out if his “hobby” was for real? I don’t know. Did he die of a heart attack or a broken heart? I don’t know.
All I know is he brought great music to the world. He changed the world in so many ways and he will always be the “King of Pop” to me.
What will the world remember him as? Only time will tell.
But if he were still alive and I had the honour to be by his bedside, I would say “Thank you, Michael, for being you.”
